Mobile dryer S40 for corn and soybean

Customer Small farm
Cereals Corn and soybean
Need Increasing production
Model S 40/325 F
Hourly yield approx. 9.5 ton/h of corn and 5.5 ton/h of soybean dried and cooled 25% to 14%

In the heart of the fertile Po Valley, a farm with a long history behind it and deep knowledge in the grain sector decided to take a step forward in innovation. After satisfactorily using a 30-ton capacity mod. MECMAR dryer for more than 25 years, the farm has grown by increasing production and reaching 5,000 tons of harvested grain, including corn (80 percent) and soybeans (20 percent).

The purchase of this new 40-ton capacity dryer therefore represents a qualitative leap: greater capacity, new features such as dual discharge, and an operational simplicity that reflects the company’s philosophy. With the S40, the company has strengthened its ability to store corn in optimal conditions, avoiding storage problems and maintaining a high standard of quality.

The context

After using a 30-ton Mecmar dryer for years, the company found the best configuration characterized by:

  • Installation under the canopy: the dryer is outdoors but sheltered from the weather, while the loading area can hold a large amount that the machine can dry in a few days. By keeping the grain sheltered from rain (which would increase its moisture content), fuel consumption is also reduced.
  • The outdoor installation allows the dryer to breathe freely and express its efficiency and effectiveness to the fullest.
  • The diesel burner built in Italy by neighboring Riello is synonymous with safety and reliability.
  • The tractor drive allows flexibility in repositioning the machine, as it does not depend on power supply.
  • The double discharge allows the dried grain to be unloaded on one side into the shed, and on the other side into any trailer parked next to the machine.
  • The dust extraction system allows for a clean grain that is more valuable in the market.

Importance of proper drying of corn and soybeans

Drying grains, particularly corn and soybeans, is a crucial process. Proper drying prevents mold and fungus growth, safeguarding the quality of the crop. The drying temperature must be precisely controlled: too high can damage the seeds, too low does not remove moisture effectively.

To ensure proper storage, it is advisable to proceed with corn drying when the moisture content of the grains is above 13%. It is preferable to start the drying process immediately after harvest to prevent any degradation that may reduce the quality of the grains.

Corn proves to be resistant to high temperatures during drying: it can be exposed to air currents up to 120 °C without damaging the grain structure. This practice allows grain moisture to be reduced by 5 percent in one hour.

On the other hand, soybeans, often used in animal feed because of their high vegetable fat and protein content, contribute to the healthy and robust growth of livestock. Soybeans, which are fragile and rich in protein, must be handled carefully during drying. Normally, harvested soybeans have a moisture content of 18-25%: to preserve their quality, reduce the moisture below 13%.

Proper subsequent storage is equally vital to maintain product quality until sale or use. Here, Mecmar’s technology plays a key role, ensuring a controlled and uniform drying process.

What are the advantages of the S40 mobile dryer?

First, its capabilities and performance. The S-series dryer model is optimized for processing medium to large volumes of grain. In contrast to other portable models from Mecmar, the main advantage of this dryer does not lie in its mobility, but rather in its larger size, which allows the drying of large quantities of product in a shorter time.

In addition to this, the S40 solution adapts to different types of grains and seeds, confirming itself as a versatile machine for different seasonal crops, capable of drying all of them without problems. This feature is essential for a company working with multiple types of grain at the same time, such as corn and soybeans.

Next, let’s turn to operating costs. Mobile dryers – such as the S40 precisely – are more economical because installation and maintenance costs are lower than for fixed plants. For a company concerned with economic sustainability, this is crucial.

Let us also not forget the quality aspect: drying grains immediately after harvest with S40 means maintaining high product quality. This readiness reduces the risk of spoilage and ensures a higher quality finished product.

For a growing business, the S40 represents a scalable solution. As the company’s needs change, the machine can be integrated with other dryers, again within the Mecmar family.

Mecmar, with its commitment to efficient and reliable solutions, continues to be a key partner for forward-looking farms.

Published data refer to corn and are calculated with mathematical models that use clean and ripe products and in normal operating conditions with 120°C drying air temperature and one hour cool-down time. Please do not hesitate to contact the nearest Mecmar dealer for more information.
